Monty Python and the Holy Grail ReviewOne of the funniest films of all time deserves a video slot to match, and Bally have duly delivered with this slapstick new casino floor game. The Monty Python sketch show was huge in the UK during the early 70's, but it was the release of their second film loosely based around the theme of the Arthurian legends which made them a household name the world over.

Theme

You will find all your favourite characters from the Monty Python comedy group as high pay icons on this game. Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin all make an appearance in their various movie costumes.

The two base games differ only slightly in that the audio and visual effects of the base game are geared around two separate iconic characters, the black knight and the killer bunny. All the great scenes from the film are included as video cut scenes, from Arthur's squire Patsy banging coconuts to simulate horse hooves to the infamous Rabbit attacking the cast.

Whilst this game might not have the bespoke content which official titles such as the Duck Dynasty slot offer, the theme is so well tied in that you simply won't notice. The new curved LED screen cabinets do wonders to show off the graphics work as well which is really top notch and adds to the games fun.

Games & Features

The slot isn't finished yet but the pre release version is a 5x4 reel game with fixed paylines and no any ways win structure. It is enhanced by 5 progressive jackpot levels which can be won on either base game when you land the Holy Grail on the reels. This takes you to a pick win style bonus game, it's a genuine choice based round too, no pre-determined results here. Further rather than a simple pick screen, every pick you make causes a 3D animation on the video screen above, triggering a video effect from the film.

The other bonus rounds are packed with comedy too, free spins are filled with flashback footage of the Black Knight’s epic battle with King Arthur, or the Killer Bunny chasing the knights (“Run away! Run away!”). There is even one with the guards of the French castle flinging animals at the knights as they attack. If you haven't seen the film, I guess the slot could look bizarre, especially as the bonus trigger is the “Holy Hand Grenade”.

None of the free spins rounds can be re-triggered, but they do appear to have some decent win potential with Ballys recent raining wilds feature appearing on one round and the possibility for linked symbols with all Knights becoming wild.
